Kjell Harald Litangen, known as LITANGEN, is a Norwegian guitarist and composer whose instrumental music draws on a wide range of musical influences. Over the years, he has collaborated with Norwegian and international artists, bringing his versatile guitar work to recordings and television productions.His first solo album, Diversions (2020), was written and recorded in his home studio outside Oslo during the pandemic. Embracing a “no rules” approach, Litangen created a collection of twelve original compositions shaped by melodic ideas, improvisation and a broad palette of sounds, from electric and acoustic guitars to instruments such as oud, banjo, mandolin, bouzouki and lap steel.Released in 2021, A Fine Line developed this musical direction further, with a stronger electric guitar presence and an emphasis on melody, improvisation and interplay. The album features trumpet virtuoso Ole Edvard Antonsen on “Leilani”.With Drifting (2026), LITANGEN takes a more collaborative approach. Recorded as a trio with bassist Kjetil Dalland and drummer Torstein Lofthus, the album brings Litangen’s compositions into an open musical setting where the three musicians shape the music together. The result is an organic and dynamic collection, balancing melodic exploration with rhythmic movement and unexpected turns.Across the three albums, LITANGEN continues to explore the possibilities of instrumental music, with the guitar at the centre of a sound that remains open to different influences, textures and directions.
